Teen Dating Violence is Serious!
Many teen survivors face the same safety threats as adult survivors of domestic violence.
While teens can face great danger from abusive partners, they are often overlooked or disbelieved when they come forward with their concerns. It’s important to recognize the potential harm teen survivors face and to take it seriously!
Teen Dating Violence is More Common Than You Think!
It’s estimated that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys experience physical and/or sexual violence in their intimate relationship.*
Despite the latest statistics, many teen survivors feel isolated and alone while in a relationship with an abusive partner. Many are made to feel that they are dramatic or overreacting when in truth, they are in danger. When teen survivors feel rejected when reaching out for help, they are less likely to reach out for help again and are at greater risk of developing unhealthy relationship experiences. It’s important to believe teens when they come with concerns and help connect them to meaningful resources!
